Last weekend, I ran my first marathon. I have decided to run marathon during quarantine period but I wasn't able to run until the lock down was over. I have started my training in July. I thought I could run a marathon around 3.10-15, but Sub 3 was also a possibility. In the end, I ran marathon only during Ironman.
My training period would show me what I could do. I wasn't in my best form. We trained for 4 months and a week. Normally, Istanbul Marathon route is mostly flat. However, this time, they changed the route to because of Covid measures. Only 4000 athletes were allowed and they cancelled public race and 15k races. We crossed Istanbul Bosphorus 2 times for the first time. (from Europe to Asia and Asia to Europe) anyway,...
Honestly, I don't know where to start and I will come just to the end. I finished my first marathon in 4 hours 5 minutes 45 seconds :(
This is not what I trained for, I was running with average 5.10 min/km pace until 27th km which was slower than my long easy runs. Then, I suddenly stopped and couldn't go any longer.
I learned / realized my mistakes, and those mistakes do not belong only to me. I was so blind not to see them during training months.
Sorry blog, I have to write about this race report like that. There is no excuse for what happened. I do not see it as a loss, I see it as an experience and what I know is I will try my best to comeback stronger..
I just hope there will be no more restrictions in 2021 like the first period of pandemic. My only excuse will be lockdown and injury (if happens :) )
Feel free to write me for registration process, route and etc..
